Poet, statesman, Tutor to Ps Henry and Gentleman of his Bedchamber 1603 (as Mr Alexander) Kt 1609, and after Ps Henry's death same position with Ps Charles, Master of Requests 1614, assisted James i with metrical psalms (published 1631) patent for sole printing rights for 31 years. Secretary of State for Scotland 1626~40. 1E Stirling 1633. Died insolvent in London.
